Didn’t This Happen Last Time?

Team Drew Motorsport headed out to Avalon Raceway on November 8th for their second race meeting of the season with first meeting nemesis Darren Cockerill also along for the hit out. In a small field the opportunity was there for the team to stretch its engine legs to see what they have available to them for the major races coming up starting in December.

Justin Drew was drawn to start from third spot in the first heat and made the most of being ahead of Cockerill to motor on ahead and cross the finish line in front of Cockerill and Chris Reick.

The starting positions were reversed for the second heat and it was Cockerill who took the win ahead of Drew and Darren Hossack former V8 Supercar race driver.

With no mechanical issues confronting the team it was time to head out for a front row feature start. Well so they thought. Avalon race announcer Gavin White took it upon himself to get the crowd involved and called for a front row reversal which sent Cockerill and Drew to the rear of the field seeking a chance to win double the prize money if they could win the race from their.

In a copy of the previous meeting it was Cockerill and Drew who were the stars and they weaved through the field and found themselves out front again with Hossack, Graham Cox, Reick and Bryan Hart. Cockerill when on to take the win by a couple of car lengths with Justin Drew finishing second and Hossack third.

After the race Justin had this to say. “We just couldn’t get there. Darren is a top class driver and it is always difficult against him. He has that little bit more than us at the moment so we need to find something in our machinery to pull that back before next start. Congratulations to Darren.”
